It’s time for our Memorial Day Weekend trip to Lakeport for lots of fun and festivities! We will have a caravan leaving from the Starbucks at Calavaras & 680 in Milpitas Friday at 10am (1197 E Calaveras Blvd, Milpitas, CA 95035). please arrive by 9:30am with a full tank and your radio (set to channel 7-0). We will drive through the beautiful wine country with lunch at Crane park in St. Helena (360 Crane Avenue, St. Helena, CA 94574) and will arrive at the Featherbed (2870 County Road 306S, Nice, CA 95485) at about 3pm.
Again the good people at The Featherbed Railroad, where several of us will be staying, are going to put on an awesome welcome BBQ for our club members and will have a wine tasting. He is also planning to show a movie (outside, weather permitting). These festivities are free to those staying at their B & B and made available for only $15 per person to those staying elsewhere. I will have a signup sheet at the meeting for this dinner so they know how many to cook for.
For more details here is a link to the letter Tony, the proprietor of Featherbed, sent to me: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/64304714/Featherbed%20Railroad%20Flyer%20for%20SCC.pdf
On Saturday morning at about 8am we will all drive to the Lake County Fairgrounds (401 Martin Street, Lakeport, CA 95453) and prepare to take part in the annual Memorial Day Parade. It is a tradition for the Corvettes in the parade to throw candy to the children lining the parade route so please bring lots (like 10 to 15lbs) or you will run out. They must rent kids for this event as there are literally hundreds of them in attendance! After the parade you can take part in a poker run visiting some of the local wineries put on by Corvettes of Lake County, go exploring on your own or go back to your room and relax. Saturday night is the special dinner put on by COLC at the beautiful Riviera Hills Golf Club (10200 Fairway Drive, Kelseyville, CA 95451 (707)-277-7575). We will all park together on the fairway for a scenic photo shoot. If you have never been to one of these you will be blown away by the view of the lake from up here. You have to send in the registration form and pay for this dinner in advance so please download and print out the form below:

On Sunday morning is the highlight of the weekend (well to me it is) the car show! It is held right on the lake at a park in downtown Lakeport. This is an officially sanctioned WSCC type 1 car show / park & show so be sure to register for it when you sign up for the Saturday night dinner. Then Sunday night is the infamous boat races. If you have never seen this you won’t believe it! We’re not talking boats in the water, these boats are chained behind demolition derby cars that then race around a soapy water soaked track. It is pure pandemonium and a great way to cap off a fantastic weekend getaway with your Corvette buddies!
Anyone who still needs to book a room might want to try the Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino http://www.rrrc.com/hotel/ which is about four miles away from the Featherbed at (1545 E Hwy 20, Upper Lake, CA 95485).
